Applications must be in a position with 6 months post-doctoral research associate in organic chemistry / organometallic chemistry, which invited jointly funded by the BBSRC and GE Healthcare as part of an exchange program in the industry. The overall goal is diagnostic agents to detect acute and chronic inflammation to develop. Development of a number of PET ligands specific, inflammatory lesions target the goal of acting in an improved diagnostic markers.

The project is part of an ongoing collaboration between interdisciplinary groups of Professor Nick Long (Department of Chemistry) and Dr Gavin Felix (neuroscience, medicine), and supported by GE Healthcare (Hammersmith Hospital and Amersham) .

The successful candidate will be based in the department of chemistry at Imperial College, but may become an important part of their time at Hammersmith Hospital in London and GE Healthcare in Amersham laboratories spend working for the implementation of radiochemistry. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry and has extensive expertise in synthetic organic / organometallic methods. Scholarships Description: A PhD Research Studentship at Cambridge University Engineering Department funded by Ford Research Centre, Cologne, Germany is available for UK/EU students from 1 October 2011. The duration is 3.5 years.

The research is motivated by the increasing trend towards low-carbon drivetrains employing super- or turbo-charged engines perhaps in combination with an electrical drive (hybrid). Such drivetrains can respond in an unexpected way to the driver’s actuation of the throttle pedal. For example, response to pedal actuation can be delayed due to the response time of the air-charging system, so called ‘turbo-lag’. These unexpected responses can degrade the driveability and comfort of the vehicle as perceived by the driver.

The aim of the research is to measure, understand, and model the driver’s perception and control of the transient longitudinal acceleration response of the vehicle, to enable the design of low-carbon drivetrains that perform at least as well as conventional drivetrains. The investigation will involve experimental measurements on a test vehicle at Ford. Mathematical models of the vehicle and driver will be developed, typically comprising engine and transmission elements of the vehicle, and sensory, cognitive and neuromuscular elements of the human driver. The Studentship will provide funding for University and College fees (UK/EU rate) and an annual maintenance allowance at the standard EPSRC rate, currently £13,590 (2010/2011).

A Post Doctoral Fellow is sought to participate in ARC funded Discovery Projects focused on the swift heavy-ion irradiation of materials. The successful applicant will join a multi-facetted research group utilising ion irradiation and a variety of characterisation tools, including synchrotron radiation and transmission electron microscopy, to probe, identify and understand the interaction of ions and matter. While we seek a multi-skilled person, we place particular emphasis on transmission electron microscopy experience to enable the successful applicant to utilise a new 200 kV TEM equipped with FEG and EELS.

To be successful in the role you will achieve fundamental insight into ion irradiated materials to aid in their integration in advanced electronic and photonic devices. A wide range of processing and analytical tools are available on campus though travel to domestic and international facilities will be required to access very-high-energy ion accelerators and synchrotron radiation sources.

If you have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Materials Chemistry or Engineering, experience with ion implantation or irradiation and characterisation methods, in particular transmission electron microscopy, we would welcome your application.

The Endowment will grant up to 120 Teacher Creativity awards of $8,000 each.

Eligibility

For a 2011 fellowship, licensed teachers in Indiana public, private and parochial schools (including guidance counselors and library/media specialists), principals and assistant principals in such schools (who have held one of these positions since Fall 2008 or before) are eligible to apply. They must be currently employed full-time and must be Indiana-certified in grades K-12. Past Teacher Creativity Fellowship recipients who received their first award before 2004 are eligible to apply.

An individual may receive up to two grants through this program during his or her lifetime .Please note the proposal deadline date. Without exception, applications must be postmarked by November 5, 2010. An impartial panel will review

proposals in January. The Endowment plans to notify recipients by February 25, 2011.

Yokohama National University has for many years been instrumental in providing university graduates with opportunities to further their post-graduate work.The University’s special emphasis on the promotion of international exchanges with overseas universities has been stimulated by the role of Yokohama, a major port and the second largest city in Japan, as a point of contact with other countries. Yokohama is the vibrant heart of a civilization which has received direct influence from the West and then integrated these influences into the development of present-day Japan.

The City of Yokohama has a well-developed infrastructure network. Because of its central location, Yokohama has had excellent access to theoretical and practical information available through various international agencies of the government, and Yokohama National University has been closely involved in issues of infrastructure management. Much of this experience and knowledge is applicable to the infrastructure development needs of developing countries.

　　　The Infrastructure Management Program is formally administered by the International Graduate School of Social Sciences’ International and Business Law Department, but it is in fact jointly planned and conducted by all of YNU’s graduate schools. Scholarship

The scholarship also covers tuition fees, the entrance examination fee and the admission fee.

Citizens of low and middle income World Bank member countries are eligible for the scholarships. Applicants must be age 35 or under as of April 1, 2011. Applicants must have at least four years of practical experience involving responsibility for infrastructure development and must also intend to pursue a career in the field of development.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Electron Transport via Four-Probe Scanning Tunneling Microscopy

The Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position in the Imaging Functionality group. The applicant is expected to have experience in instrument or technique development and will conduct research involving the use of cryogenic four-probe scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) for the study of electron transport and the photovoltaic effect in nanostructures and heterojunctions. The CNMS (http://cnms.ornl.gov/) is a nanoscience user research facility supported by the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy. The CNMS has a diverse spectrum of nanoscience research activities including a nanofabrication facility; laboratory-based research on macromolecular materials, catalysts, and functional nanomaterials; characterization with electron microscopes, scanning probes, and x-ray diffraction and scattering; and theory, modeling, and simulation.

Qualifications:

This position requires a Ph.D. in condensed matter physics or a related field, with a background in instrument development, cryogenic STM and transport research in nanoscale and mesoscopic structures. Experience with low temperature-STM, molecular beam epitaxy, surface analytical techniques, and photovoltaic effect is desirable. The successful candidate should be motivated and have superior UHV laboratory skills. Presentations at national meetings and publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals are expected. The applicant must have the ability to work in a team and interact effectively with a broad range of colleagues. Excellent English oral and written communication skills must be demonstrated.

A postdoc at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City, IA, July / August 2010 (on request). The laboratory is the study of ion channel modulation and cell plasticity of neuronal excitability, compared with the pain and cramps. In particular, the projects focus on the regulation of the expression, trafficking, localization and function of voltage-dependent Na + / K + channels by different cellular pathways of signal transduction studied. These projects are of primary neuronal cultures / co-cultures respond to biochemical, proteomics, cell and molecular biology and electrophysiological techniques, and various rodents carry out tests on important questions. AMD Intern Program

A call for youth participation in national society.

Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD) are currently in efforts to increase its uranium exploration in the country, so that the projected demand for uranium can be seen largely from internal resources.

Take the exploration and research at an accelerated pace, AMD has created all with the collaboration of many academic institutions and professionals, the prime minister of the country life.

AMD Intern Program (AMDSP) is one of the activities that are designed to encourage students to return to short-term projects in priority areas of work in uranium exploration.

AMDSP to promote M. Sc / M. Tech / M. Sc Tech students from various universities and institutions that take place on the ground in implementing various projects in priority areas of AMD.

The project work must necessarily be part of the curriculum, such as dissertation or project that the award of a diploma.

The granting of blanket Rs 5 000 is awarded to any student on the work of project success.

Research Intern will be paid to be able to cover some incidental expenses of students, resulting in areas of the field.

At least four weeks of field work is required for the award.

University of Oxford & University of York Master's Scholarships

One-year scholarships to read for a Master's degree at the University of Oxford

Fifteen scholarships are available to scholars wishing to read for one of the one-year taught master's courses within the University of Oxford’s social sciences and humanities divisions (except for the courses listed under management studies). You can check if your course is eligible by consulting the university’s prospectus or visiting the graduate admissions website.

Scholars wishing to apply for Oxford master's awards should obtain information about the relevant degree and its requirements by consulting the University's Graduate Studies Prospectus, also available online in printed form from the local Soros Foundation/Educational Advising Center.

All applicants for this option must complete an application form for graduate study. Application forms are available from the local foundation offices. There is a normally a non-refundable charge of £25 payable when submitting a Master's application to the University of Oxford. However, the sponsors will cover this fee on your behalf on the following conditions:

You must submit your application to the local foundation office by January 12, 2010.

You can then submit your application without payment. Your fee cannot be covered by the sponsors if you apply online.

Twelve-month scholarships to read for an MA in Political Philosophy (The Idea of Toleration) at the University of York

Scholars wishing to apply should obtain further information about the degree course either from the University of York website or from the local Soros foundation/Educational Advising Center ( Please note: applicants for this option do not need to apply directly to York).

Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of and resident in one of the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, FYR Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine or Uzbekistan. Applicants who are temporarily out of the country at the time of application (of the total period of less than 3 consecutive months) may be treated as residents.
Applicants should be planning to return to their home country at the end of the period of study.
All applicants must have completed at least four years of university study and have obtained, or expect to obtain, the appropriate degree(s) no later than September 2010..
Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside of their home country.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential to become leaders, decision makers, and opinion formers in their home country, as well as a friend to the UK. This requirement will be treated as of considerable importance in the selection process, and applicants should be sure to complete Section 9 of the application form fully and appropriately.
Applicants should have a proven track record of success or excellence in their professional life distinguishing them from their peers and contemporaries.
Applicants will be required to have passed an English proficiency test (IELTS preferred) before being offered a Scholarship. The minimum requirement for Option 2 (Oxford) IELTS 7.5 (with minimum 7.0 in each component) or TOEFL - 630 (minimum Test of Written English score - 5) or Computer based TOEFL - 267 (minimum essay writing score - 5) or Internet based TOEFL - 109 or Cambridge Certificate of proficiency in English - B), although some courses, such as those in the area of Oriental Studies, require IELTS 8.0. Please refer to the University of Oxford Graduate Studies Prospectus for further details. The minimum requirement for Option 3 (York) is IELTS 6.5 (TOEFL 580, in the computer-based test (CBT) 237, and iBT 92, Cambridge CPE Grade C).
Employees, employee's relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than 2 years before) of FCO (including FCO Posts), the British Council, the Educational Advising Centers or other OSI representations in the region, the participating Universities will not be eligible to apply for these awards. In accordance with FCO guidelines, those who in the past three years received UK Government fully funded scholarships or those who are seeking military training are also not eligible for this scholarship.

Application Procedure

Applicants for Option 2 (Oxford master's) should complete the university application form for graduate study and return three copies to the local Soros Foundation/Educational Advising Center, along with the required supporting materials listed below by January 12, 2010.

Applcants for Option 3 (York) should complete the OSI master's scholarship application form and return three copies to the local Soros Foundation/Educational Advising Center, along with the required supporting materials listed below by January 12, 2010.

Summary of Diploma dissertation
If your degree course does/did not require a dissertation, please indicate this in section 22 of the application form. We expect applicants to include a summary even if the dissertation has not yet been submitted.
TOEFL or IELTS certificate (IELTS preferred)
Applicants who already have a valid certificate should send copies with the application. Local OSI/Soros Foundation/Educational Advising Centers will arrange tests for short-listed candidates after the interviews in April, if applicants have not already successfully taken a test in the 2 years prior to the interview. For Option Three, test certificates must be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office at Oxford University. Depending on the course applied for; applicants may be disqualified if this information is not submitted by the application deadline; however in some cases the test results may be submitted at a later date.
